The International Symposium on the Sustainable Processing of Carbon Waste provides a platform dedicated to advancing innovative solutions for the valorisation of carbon waste, including but not limited to lignocellulosic crop waste, scrap tyre and plastics. As the world transitions toward a circular economy and lowcarbon future, addressing the sustainable processing of carbon waste is more critical than ever.

Scope and themes

The symposium covered a broad range of topics, including but not limited to:

Chemical processing of carbon waste, such as

  1. Thermal and catalytic pyrolysis/cracking/gasification
  2. Hydrothermal processing;
  3. Others not specified (e.g., fermentation, devulcanisation).

Catalysis for chemical recycling of waste

Novel catalyst design and the respective catalysis mechanism for the valorisation of carbon waste into high-value materials, chemicals, and fuels.

Reaction kinetics, reaction design and process simulation

Reaction kinetics underpinning the chemical transformation of carbon waste, and the respective reactor design and process simulation for the integration of waste processing into traditional/novel industrial processes.

High-value products from waste and applications

High-value products including hydrogen, platform chemicals, bio-fuels and solid carbon materials from wastes and their applications (eg: graphite anode for battery assembly, adsorption, catalysis)

Policy, Economics, and Environmental Impacts

Regulatory frameworks, economic viability, life cycle assessments, and public perception of carbon waste valorisation.

Advanced/Next-Generation upgrading of carbon waste

The emerging heating systems including Joule heating, induction heating and, plasma/microwave-assisted processing for the transformation of carbon waste and/or catalyst/materials refinement.

Digital Twin/AI-Driven Innovations

The role of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and digital twin for data analytics in materials/reactor design and optimisation of the waste processing and resource recovery.
